Hey all. There's a new twitter client out called Qwitter (after the dude Q, who wrote most of it.) I highly recommend it. (I should, as I was the one that wrote the readme document for it. All flames about it should be sent my way. :) ) It works with Jaws, Window Eyes, and maybe with system access. We haven't had enough people with system access to really test if it works like it should or not.
It can be found at www.qwitter-client.net
I'll be happy to provide tech support if anyone needs help with it, and if you have any suggestions after trying it out, feel free to contact myself or Chris AKA Q, the main coder.
Peace,
Nehemiah, on Behalf of Mongoose Enterprises
This thing is amazing.
Ok, so I never new what the big deal about twitter was. I mean, come on, signing into a website just to write a limited 140 characters? But now that I tested this qwitter thinggy out, it's not bad! I love how you can access it where ever you are on your computer! :d
I love qwitter.
:) Glad you guys are enjoying it. Would you like me to post notifications on here as we get it updated? One of the things on the to do list is to find a way to make it auto update, or at least alert you to when an update is available, but we're not there yet. However, we're always making updates. It's already up to 1.05 from 1.0 just in today.
that'd be awesome, but what's been happening is it stops updating for a while! like, i know there are updates, but they're not coming through on the qwitter thinggy! sometimes what I do is to go tp programs and open the qwitter up, then it'll get updated, but it hasn't been doing that lately. So I just uninstalled it, and reinstalling it! oy...anyone else having this problem?
that's a bit odd. are you running the latest version? we're currently up to version 1.42 I think on the site, and 1.50 should be up this evening.
I have been using Qwitter for the last week or so. About 5 minutes ago I updated to the most recent available version of the program, and, what I don't like about this update, is that you can only retrieve 200 tweets, as well as that there's a limitation on the amount of characters you can have in a direct message. As far as I know, these limitations weren't present in previous versions of the client.
I really hope that they will do away with these limits.
I'll address both points here. That 200 limit was one that was already there, but you never saw, because we didn't bother to show it as an option. We allow you to ramp it up to 200, but to go beyond that runs you the likelyhood of running up against limits twitter imposes, not us. Twitter only allows for a certain number of updates per hour. As I'm not the programmer, I can't tell you exactly how it all works, but I do know that much. IF you really truly want to run those limits, you can manually edit the config file, and put in whatever value you like. However, this is neither suggested, nor endorsed by the mongoose staff. Same as the direct message limit. Until sometimes this week, you could post direct messages longer than the 140 if you used a client. Unfortunately, our friends at twitter, without warning us even on the twitterAPI feed that I saw, slammed the door on that. So once again, it's a limit that twitter imposes, not us. The only reason we put in the limit was so that you wouldn't try to post direct messages, think they got through, when in fact they did not. I am sorry about both of those, especially the direct message thing as I was one to use much longer dm's myself, but there's nothing really we can do about it. IT's just a limit of twitter.
Yay just started using Qwitter and I like it.
Qwitter is perhaps the best Twitter client out there!
And it should be updating automatically---it's done that for awhile. I also like the diferent buffers and searching is cool because you can update the search to be on top of things.
Just a pre warning, keep your eyes open; qwitter 2.0 will be coming out very soon. I'll announce when it happens.
I really want know what happens. I love this so far. Let me know of anything I can do to help.
I started using qwitter on Saturday i think and i am very happy with it.
First of all the read me file is very nicely done with headings etc so it is very easy to find what we are looking for.
Also i like a lot the sapi support as i dont have a supported screen reader.
There is only one thing that i didn't understand at the qwitter website.
At the download area belo the download link for the client there is the following text.
• MD5 Checksum: 2d0d723b6150f03643f8246d816182da
What exactly this mean?
I would suggest that at the website there was a date of the latest version released so we know if we have the latest or not.
Also in the changelog file it would be nice if we could see the dates for each change.
Keep up the good work
Nikos
an MD5 checksum is a system that's been used for a long time to verify once you've downloaded something if you got the entire download. I don't understand exactly why it works, just the how.
If you look on the download page it there's a link to the latest changelog which always get's uploaded when we update the public release. That''s the easiest way to tell what the latest version is at present, though I see your point about putting it on the site itself. However, I don't think you're going to see the date put into the changelog. We often make several changes in one day, and not all our coders are in the same part of the world. You might start running into the "what day was it" thing. Besides, when a public release comes out we all tweet about it, so it's usually pretty easy to hear about it, especially if you follow one of us in the project. Sorry if any of this doesn't quite make sense, I just woke up.
Qwitter rocks, so I think everyone should have it. http://www.qwitter_client.net.
Jen.
Thanks for the answers to my questions. It was very well answered.
Keep up the good work.
No, the URL is: http://www.qwitter-client.net Dash, not underscore.
Hmmm! Thought I got on there with underscore. That's the URL I was given anyway and it worked.
I can't get Qwitter to work for me. After downloading and installing it, I try opening it, but receive the following error:
Errors Occurred
The logfile 'C:Program FilesQwitterqwitter.exe.log' could not be opened:
[Errno 13] Permission denied: 'C:Program FilesQwitterqwitter.exe.log'
My computer is pretty new, and I'm running the 32 bit version of Vista Home Premium. I saw a link on the Qwitter site to download something to help if people get an error in regards to configuration problems, but my error didn't say anything about configuration. I'm guessing since my computer is pretty new, it has everything it needs to install this program.
Anyway, I could be wrong, and so I just wanted to show this error and see if anyone can help. Thanks.
Install Qwitter to somewhere other than Program files, that is, after you uninstall Qwitter and remove everything related to it.
I love qwitter! It rocks!. I like it because you don't have to use your web browser to look at your updates. I also like it because you don't have to open the application everytime you wanna check your tweets or post one.
Leslie
to post 20, did you try right clicking on the file and running it as adminstrator both in the install and in the running of the proggram?
I got both Twitter and Qwitter yesterday. I really like Qwitter a lot. The only problem I have is that my followers and friends lists don't update. I don't know if it's just me, or if other people have this problem, but that's my only complaint about Qwitter. Other than that, it's great. I really like how you don't have to go to another window to access it.
Unfortunately it seams as qwitter came to an end so quickly.
By visiting the website you can read the following.
The Qwitter project has been indefinitely suspended. Thank you for your interest.
If you would still like to download the current, unsupported version of Qwitter, you can click here

Qwitter was the best twitter client i ever use and i am so sorry to see the project finishing so quickly.
I think atleast we should have a better explanation why the project stopped so suddenly without a reason.
This action doesn't seam very proffesional from the developer.
He stopped because people kept complaining about it. People weren't happy to just have what they had, and they kept complaining that something wasn't working. Of course there would be some things that needs to be fixed, that's why it was still being developed. He couldn't devote all his time to Qwitter, and people don't seem to think about how we all have other things in life to attend to, and that not everything can be done in a second.
i agree with you bree if he was un emploied then it would of been a different story then he would of had the time to get everything working fine with quiter but since i do believe that he is emploied and he doesn't have much time on his hands to go though all the complaints that everyone has about his programs not working correctly well that is my opinion and i am sticking to it
For me the program worked really well and as long as it works i will keep using it.
I think since the project is open source people instead of complaining if they wanted they should get the code and contribute. But i don't think it was sensible giving up a very nice project because some people complain. There are many more who have got nice things to say.
But anyway since i don't know the hole story i can't comment. I just hope that the project will come back one day either with the same developer or somebody else.
I am happy to see that qwitter is back up and i hope that it will stay.
By looking at the twitter of the developer i can see that this action was taken after the results of a poll when users decided qwitter to be back up.
And also now there is a mailing list which i will explore and give you information later.
Welcome back qwitter.
I can't get qwitter to update any buffers at all. Any ideas anyone?
